Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of entrepreneurship education based on Bybee’s teaching model on career aspirations, classroom silence, and proactive personality among shy lower-secondary school students. This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest–posttest design with a control group. The statistical population included all female lower-secondary students in public schools of Mehriz County during the 2024–2025 academic year. After selecting three girls’ schools through cluster random sampling, the Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale was administered, and 40 students with the highest shyness scores were purposefully selected and randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group, with 20 students in each group. Data were collected using Behnamfar et al.’s Classroom Silence Behavior Questionnaire, the Career Aspirations Questionnaire based on the model of Danziger et al., Buck’s Proactive Personality Scale, and the Revised Cheek and Buss Shyness Scale. The experimental group received entrepreneurship education based on Bybee’s five-stage instructional model for five consecutive weeks, one 90-minute session per week, while the control group received no intervention. Data were analyzed using the t-test, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Levene’s test, and multivariate analysis of covariance in SPSS version 24. The results of multivariate analysis of covariance indicated that entrepreneurship education based on Bybee’s teaching model had a statistically significant overall effect on the combined dependent variables (F=20.74, p<0.001). Univariate analyses further showed that, after controlling for pretest scores, there were significant differences between the experimental and control groups in classroom silence (F=33.51, p<0.001, η²=0.366), career aspirations (F=507.43, p<0.001, η²=0.897), and proactive personality (F=56.27, p<0.001, η²=0.492). Entrepreneurship education based on Bybee’s teaching model can be considered an effective educational intervention for reducing classroom silence and enhancing career aspirations and proactive personality among shy students. By emphasizing active participation, exploration, problem-solving, group interaction, and career goal-setting, this approach can support students’ cognitive, social, and behavioral development.
